When it comes to fitness classes in London, are you looking for something a little more out of the ordinary? With candlelit hip hop yoga classes, mind-body-soul spinning experiences and disco bar sessions on offer around the capital, there are an abundance of new workouts for you to try that are guaranteed to mix up your usual routine.
There’s no better time to start – January provides the ideal month to shake things up and challenge yourself, whether you’re wanting to get fit or just enjoy yourself with something a bit different. Here are some of our favourite fitness classes in London that we think you should try.
FLY LDN
Location: Aldgate
After a high energy dynamic class that is guaranteed to make you sweat (a lot)? For a twist on traditional power Vinyasa Flow, a candlelit hip hop yoga session at FLY LDN is the one to book. If you’d prefer something without as much impact, they also offer classes that focus on strength and conditioning within a less intense environment. FLY LDN was voted the best studio by Men’s Health in 2019, it’s suitable for everyone and every level of yoga ability. They regularly hold events with different people so there’s always an opportunity to try something new.
Body by Simone
Location: Camden
This state-of-the-art London studio was opened by the hugely successful personal trainer Simone De La Rue, who is one of the hottest Hollywood fitness experts. At the studio, you can expect dance, body weight and high-intensity sessions. The Full Body class can’t be missed, it promises a “head to toe overhaul” which will no doubt leave you feeling great! Along with a Trampoline Cardio class to get your heart pumping with a low impact high energy option.
The Foundry
Location: Various
Named ‘one of the best gyms in the world’ by Men’s Health and Women’s Health, The Foundry can provide you with one of London’s most brutal fat-burning workouts, in the form of a ‘City Strongman’ session. This class uses all the toys seen on TV’s ‘World’s Strongest Man’ – think sledge dragging, log pressing and the famous Atlas Stones! You can also book a semiprivate training session if you’re nervous about working out in front of a large group of people. Having only a couple of people to each trainer can make a huge difference when you’re trying to achieve your goals, whatever they may be.
Barry’s Bootcamp
Location: Various
Because no fitness list is complete without Barry’s Bootcamp. One of London’s hardest workouts, their sessions are designed to challenge different body parts each day. Interval and strength training combinations will help to tone your body – within each class, you can expect dimmed lights, loud music and fantastic energy. Barry’s pride themselves on being welcoming to all, so whether you’re just starting out or are a fitness OG then Barry’s have something for you. They encourage you to push yourself and see if you can lift that heavier weight or run that little bit faster. If you don’t like running, then Barry’s has the class for you, they boast that the strength training helps you focus in order to maximise your results.
Getting there
Don’t forget, the easiest way to get around in London is generally the train – so if you’re in need of a train from Clapham Junction to Epsom, for example, you can rely on the train operators within the capital to get you there reliably and comfortably. Taking a friend is also a good way to make sure you stay committed and go regularly, you can hold each other accountable and not just give up as quickly as you might do otherwise.
Of course, the most important thing is to make sure that you are enjoying yourself. You won’t want to do any of the classes if you absolutely hate it. Make sure you find a class that works for you and give it a shot, even if it’s just for 6 months then try something new, just because it works now doesn’t mean it always will.
Start 2020 the right way and get stuck into all the fitness classes above – you won’t regret it!
